Tanks are a type of units in Rise of Nations and part of the Cavalry branch. They become available in the Industrial Age, upgrading and replacing Heavy Cavalry. Tanks are built at the Auto Plant, an automatic upgrade of the Stable. Upgrading and producing Tanks requires both
Oil and
Metal.
Packed with heavy armor and guns, tanks are generally very effective when fighting other vehicles (like support units and artillery) and civilian units. They are also somewhat useful when going against certain types of infantry (Machine Guns, Flamethrowers) or buildings. Their attacks are especially effective against Armored units, though tanks themselves take more damage from Armor-Piercing attacks as well. In formations, tanks take up the front line, along with Ranged Cavalry vehicles. They move fairly slowly, however, and may slow down the progress of an army.
Tanks can be countered with Heavy Infantry, Helicopters, and Fighter Aircraft.

Unit costs[]
Tanks' production cost increases progressively with every Auto Plant unit on the field or currently in production. The default increase is 1 Metal and 1
Oil for the second unit created, increasing further with every new unit until the cost cap is reached, which for military units is of +125% their original base value.
Nation powers[]
- The American Power of Innovation: All military ground unit upgrades, including Tanks, are 25% cheaper.
- The Bantu Power of Migration: Tanks do not require
Military research to be upgraded.
- The Iroquois Power of Nation: Tanks are hidden when not attacking and heal while idle in friendly territory.
- The Lakota Power of the Plains: Receive +4
Food to gather rate for every cavalry unit, including Tanks, instead of building Farms and Granaries; captured ones will be instantly destroyed.
- The Mongol Power of the Horde: Cavalry units, including Tanks, are created 10% cheaper and 20% faster.
- The Russian Power of the Motherland: Cavalry units, including Tanks, do +25% damage against Supply Wagons and artillery units.
Wonders[]
- The Angkor Wat reduces the cost of Auto Plant units, including Tanks, by 25%.
- The Statue of Liberty makes all ground units, including Tanks, upgraded for free.
