Takohs are the Iroquois unique scouting unit of the Ancient Age that replaces the standard Scout.

Overview[]

Compared to standard Scouts, Takohs have +10 hit points, +1 movement speed, +1 line of sight, and +100 Craft, as well as the ability to hide when not moving and to move through forests. They have +4 range, but this does not affect the range at which abilities can be cast and so has no practical effect. They also receive +3 line of sight per Science research instead of +2, and do not take bonus damage from Industrial Age Ranged Cavalry[note 3] and Biplanes.

Their additional Craft may give them an extra edge when having to dispatch more than one Spy. Takohs' ability to hide when not moving also gives them an edge over the standard Scouts, as they cannot do so until they are upgraded to Explorers in the Medieval Age.

Trivia[]

  • Takohs (Takó's) means "cat" in the Mohawk language.[note 4]
  • If the Iroquois have standard Scouts in a scenario, they will still be able to move through forests since the ability to do so is given by their nation power. Conversely, if another nation has Takohs, they won't have the ability to move through forests, which will never happen in an ordinary match since Scouts cannot be bribed.

Notes[]

  1. Since Metal is not avaliable until the Classical Age, recruiting Takohs in the Ancient Age costs 50 Timber instead of 40 Metal.
  2. Since Metal is not avaliable until the Classical Age, Takohs' ramping cost in the Ancient Age is 12.5 Timber instead of 10 Metal (in the game, the number alternates between 12 and 13, which ramps up the cost by 50 Timber for every four recruited Takohs).
  3. This appears to be due to inconsistent unit naming within unitrules.xml, balance.xml, and typenames.xml. While the first of these files refers to the unit as Takohs (with typename takohs), both of the latter two files refers to it as "Pathfinder", causing balance.xml to not actually have any effect on Takohs. Changing the three files to all consistently use either of the two unit names resolves the issue.
