Nation Overview | Strategic Overview | CtW Information | History |
The Spanish are one of the 18 nations in the original Rise of Nations. They have the Power of Discovery.
Power of Discovery[]
- The map begins revealed and you start with an extra Scout (two extra Scouts, when map is set to Explored or All Visible). The map also shows the locations of all rare resources, and the location of ruins within your own territory.
- Scouts are upgraded for free and use their abilities faster.
- This faster ability casting only applies to Sniper and Sabotage, and not to other abilities such as Counterintelligence, which will only be cast at normal speed.
- Before Industrial Age, receive a free Heavy Ship whenever you complete a Dock.
- Gain 30 resources from Ruins, and an extra +26 per Science level researched.
Unique units[]
The Spanish unique Heavy Infantry all have a 10% damage bonus against Ranged Cavalry, a 80% damage bonus against Heavy Cavalry, and a 80% damage bonus against Light Cavalry, in addition to the standard bonuses that Heavy Infantry receive against cavalry. In addition, Tercios and Royal Tercios have a slower firing rate (44 frames cooldown instead of 32), but have a 30% damage bonus against units and buildings; the two nearly offset each other in raw DPS against unarmored targets, but against armored targets the change can be quite advantageous.
The Gunpowder Age Tercios has -10 hit points and -1 attack strength compared to the Elite Pikemen it replaces, but it has an attack range of 5 and is considered a gun Heavy Infantry, same as Fusiliers, and so it has the later gun Heavy Infantry set of damage bonuses rather than the earlier (melee) Heavy Infantry set of damage bonuses: it has an additional 55% damage bonus against mounted units and an additional 14% damage bonus against Light Cavalry. Also, it doesn't have the 14% damage penalty against Foot Archers and the 25% damage penalty against Gunpowder Infantry that earlier Heavy Infantry have. The damage penalty against Modern Infantry is 20% instead of 25%. However, the 30% damage bonus against buildings that it receives goes toward countering its slower firing rate, and thus it does less damage per second against buildings than the Elite Pikemen it replaces, and it has a 34% damage penalty against Ranged Cavalry (including Mahouts). Additionally, since it is a ranged unit replacing the melee Elite Pikemen, it does not have the 80% damage bonus against Supply Wagons that melee units have.
