Science Science Research is one of the four technology disciplines available at the Library. It unlocks many economic buildings and upgrades, and reduces research costs and times of all subsequent research.

Like all Library research, Science Science research has a total of 7 levels to research. Each level researched...

Science Science 1 (Written Word), along with a Dock, allows land units to travel to other landmasses on Sea maps. Science Science 6 (Electronics) reveals the entire map for the player; Fog of War effects still apply. Science Science 7 (Computerization) permanently reveals the player's own territory and allied territory. Science Science research is also required to unlock the Granary, Lumber Mill and Smelter, as well as unlocking their production technologies, including the University.

  • The American Power of Innovation: Start with Science Science 1 (Written Word) already researched (unless playing a Nomad or City Center Only game).
  • The Chinese Power of Culture: Receive a 20% discount for all Science Science research.
  • The Greek Power of Philosophy: Receive a general 10% discount on all Library research cost (except for Knowledge Knowledge) and research 100% faster.

Notes[]

  1. The actual effect on the cost of all researches is more complex than the in-game tooltip indicates.

    The AGE parameter in Techrules.xml is used for calculating the final cost.

    For the Library researches (except the Future Technologies) the current cost will be equal to the base cost (as defined by the COST parameter), if the AGE value of the target technology is equal to the amount of the currently researched Science technologies. (Note: until you research the Classical Age there will be extra 50% cost added to one of the resources for the majority of the Library technologies)

    For the non-Library researches and the Future Technologies it works in a similar way, except the AGE value should be increased by 1, before comparing it to the amount of the researched Science technologies.

    If there are less or more Science technologies researched than needed, for each "missing" one you'll get +10% increase of the base cost for the target technology, and for each "extra" one you'll get -10% decrease of the base cost.
