Royal Balamob Slingers are the Maya unique Light Infantry of the Classical Age that replaces the standard Javelineers.
Overview[]
Compared to Javelineers, Royal Balamob Slingers are statistically identical, but they do +50% damage against other Light Infantry, making them excel at defeating all other Light Infantry.
This advantage makes Royal Balamob Slingers a superb defensive unit, specially taking into account the Mayan national powers; for in an enemy raid or rush attempt, the enemy's ranged units will be at a crippling disadvantage, while Heavy Infantry will have to cope with the increased power and toughness of Maya buildings. The advantage that Royal Balamob Slingers have is not as tide-turning as the one Balamob Slingers had in the previous age however, as Cavalry becomes avaliable in the Classical Age, and can make short work of them, having the speed Heavy Infantry doesn't to eliminate them and retire, somewhat mitigating the damage from supporting buildings. This is specially true with Heavy Cavalry. Either way, Royal Balamob Slingers still ensure their nation is one of the best defenders, and will be the bane of all opposing Light Infantry and Foot Archers.
Trivia[]
- Balam is the common name for the jaguar in Mayan languages, and "-ob" is a plural suffix, so "Balamob" translates to "jaguars".
