Riflemen are the standard Modern Infantry of the Industrial Age, available to upgrade from Musketeers as the successor of Gunpowder Infantry and are trained at the Barracks.
Overview[]
Upgrading from the slow-firing Gunpowder Infantry of the previous ages, Riflemen have +14 hit points, +2 attack strength, +2 attack range, -12 attack speed, +3 movement speed, and +2 line of sight compared to the Musketeers they replace. The basic unit cost also increases by +10 Food and +10 Timber.
Like all previous units of the unit line, Riflemen are effective in fighting Heavy Infantry, Artillery Weapons and Support Units, only they are faster, stronger, and generally more versatile. When used in quantity, they can be effective against light-armored vehicles and civilian structures as well. However, they are weak versus Tanks, Machine Guns and garrisoned fortifications like Towers and Forts.
Like most modern infantry, Riflemen have a small chance to counterattack air strikes.
Unique units []
- The Americans train Marine Riflemen instead of Riflemen.
- The British train Black Watch instead of Riflemen.
- The Chinese train Manchu Riflemen instead of Riflemen.
Trivia[]
- The in-game tooltip incorrectly classifies Riflemen as Gunpowder Infantry, while they are actually Modern Infantry.
- Riflemen appear to use bolt-action rifles, a common sight among World War I infantry.
- The Germans have a unique model for their Riflemen, wearing standard German helmets and gas masks which covers their faces. They are otherwise exactly the same.
