Building Overview Game Strategies History

The Observation Post is the second Lookout building, automatically upgraded from the Lookout at the Gunpowder Age, and serving the same purpose: It lifts the fog of war within a reasonably long range, making it an important early warning system. Even invisible units such as Spies will be detected if within its line of sight.

Compared to the Lookout, it comes with +40 hit points and a significant increase in building cost, while all other stats remain the same: it is still a fragile structure as it has no armor and cannot attack ground units. It does have the ability to attack enemy air units by shooting arrows at them; however, it's the same fairly weak, low-ranged attack its predecessor has.

Note that the building's line of sight does not increase with the upgrade - instead, it increases with each level of Science technology researched by +3 tiles.

Observation Posts are automatically upgraded to Air Defense Guns in the Industrial Age. This greatly improves their ability to combat upcoming aircraft while retaining their surveillance functionality, albeit increasing their building cost further.

Nation powers[]

  • The Indian Power of Majesty: Lookouts rise in cost at half their normal rate.
  • The Lakota Power of the Plains: Can build Lookouts anywhere except in enemy territory.
  • The Maya Power of Architecture: Lookouts have +25% hit points and are built 20% faster.
