Unit Information Game Strategies History

Modern Infantry is a late game class of infantry units. They upgrade from the now-obsolete Gunpowder Infantry in the Industrial Age Industrial Age. Modern Infantry is trained and upgraded at the Barracks, requiring both Food Food and Timber Timber.

Modern Infantry units are fast-moving, versatile soldiers, effective against most infantry units (except Machine Guns) as well as Artillery Weapons and Support Units. In turn, they can be countered with Tanks and Machine Guns.

Modern Infantry complements the late game Heavy Infantry, which is more effective in fighting the armored vehicles, but very weak against infantry.

Modern Infantry (and other "basic" infantry types including Heavy Infantry) that have a minimum age prerequisite of Modern Age Modern Age or higher (regardless of the player's age when they own the unit) gain a movement speed bonus of (approximately?) 25%, distinct from a 25% bonus which already applies to the unit lines starting from Gunpowder Infantry. This offsets a unique characteristic of the units where they randomly stop to kneel mid-movement. The net effect of both effects together is the units having similar or slightly faster overall movement speed. This bonus is shared by the undocumented Iroquois nation power, however the Iroquois units that gain access to it do not suffer from the normal "kneeling penalty".

Unit costs[]

Modern Infantry production cost increases progressively with every Barracks unit on the field or currently in production. The default increase is of 1 Food Food and 1 Timber Timber for the second unit created, increasing further with every new unit until the cost cap is reached, which for military units is +125% of their original base value.
