The Major City is the second and final upgrade to the City, occurring automatically in the Industrial Age once a given city has nine different types of buildings in its economical radius. In addition to appearance, several stats on the city change as well. These changes reflect the technological advances acquired from the progression in age. Buildings in its economical radius also get an increase in Hit Points by 70%, which applies to all Civic buildings, Wonders (excluding the Red Fort) and Military buildings (except for Towers, Forts and the line of Detector structures).
The following stats are increased from the Large City:
Attack increases to 11
Hit points increases to 5000
Armor increases to 7
Maximum number of shots increases to 4
Maximum garrison increases to 20
Line of sight increases to 16
Economic radius increases to 28
Graphics quirks[]
In the Extended Edition, the non-snow versions of each of the Major City sprites has had the windows on the bottom-left section (underneath the bridge) dulled. The snow versions keep the original highly-lit windows.
In the Extended Edition, the non-snow versions of each of the Major City sprites has a black pixel added to the trash can (far left) which is not present in the EE snow versions, or in any of the non-EE versions.
In the Extended Edition, the non-snow versions of each of the Major City sprites have had the nation/team color panels modified to have no transparency, which breaks all such panels. The snow versions of these panels still work.
All versions of the game feature one missing pixel on the snow and non-snow variants of metro_6.tga (middle-right of the main column) and four missing pixels on the snow and non-snow variants of metroplis_6m.tga (the bottom-left awning).
