The Information Age is the eighth and last age a player can reach in Rise of Nations, and the seventh and final age available to research.
After advancing to the Information Age, players are given a new palette of buildings to build, technologies to research, and units to create. Reaching this age is a late-game event, and mainly offers new technologies to research. These advanced technologies include Artificial Intelligence, Global Prosperity, World Government, and Missile Shield, each offering unique abilities that give a major advantage for the player. In this era, Nuclear weapons become game changers, with the potential to raze entire nations and, should the players not be careful, could mark the end of the world with the Armageddon. Conventional warfare is still prevalent however, given that the players can only use so many nuclear missiles before the armageddon clock reaches zero, or in a hypothetical scenario where all nations have researched Missile Shield, rendering both nuclear and conventional missiles useless. Advanced aircraft like fighters and bombers are also available after the player researches Global Prosperity, stealth bombers in particular become a serious threat as they can no longer be targeted by anti-aircraft ground units, like SAM Installations and Anti-Aircraft Missiles, and can destroy both buildings and Wonders in seconds. In water maps, Advanced Battleships become a major threat to coast cities, and Elite Special Forces could catch an unprepared player off-guard, as they can sabotage a major city and leave it completely vulnerable to capture. Attack Helicopters also become a threat, as they can easily pick off unguarded citizens and hinder a player's resource availability.
