The Hussar is the standard Light Cavalry of the Enlightenment Age, available to upgrade from the Elite Light Cavalry and are trained at the Stable.
Overview[]
When the Elite Light Cavalry becomes Hussar, it gains +22 hit points, +2 attack strength and +1 line of sight.
The fastest combat unit of its age, the Hussar excels in direct combat against Ranged Cavalry, Artillery Weapons, and Supply Wagons. However, Heavy Cavalry and Heavy Infantry will handily win in a fight. They can also best Gunpowder Infantry, but the matchup is more difficult than against the earlier Light Infantry.
Although their high speed allows them to pick and choose their engagements, their relatively low health and armor means that all incoming damage (including from buildings, and even the units which Hussars counter) can be significant. For example, Gunpowder Infantry will take significant damage once attacked, but their substantial range advantage can allow them to damage Hussars from afar - possibly from behind the safety of other units.
The prevalence of Gunpowder Infantry—as well as the new Fusiliers in this age—greatly mitigate the usefulness of Light Cavalry except in cases where speed is of the utmost value. As such, Hussars become increasingly less suitable for general army-vs-army combat and instead relegated mostly to more specialised roles.
