Sabotage half size version In the Extended Edition, this unit/building is affected by a damage bug.

Hoplites are the standard Heavy Infantry of the Ancient Age Ancient Age, trained at the Barracks.

Overview[]

As the first Heavy Infantry, Hoplites are the strongest unit of the early game. Without cavalry to counter yet, their main strength is in taking buildings. Although they are the melee Heavy Infantry with the lowest damage against buildings (12% less than its upgrades and unique unit equivalents), they still inflict 14% bonus damage to them, and their high armor will make them suffer little from buildings unlike the other infantry types, making Hoplites instrumental for any player looking to rush. They also will quickly take out Light Infantry, but in turn will need to be very wary for Foot Archers, which deal 153% bonus damage to them. It is also important to consider that Hoplites use up Timber Timber in this age, their numbers will be limited, so a player will have to balance its army with Light Infantry or Foot Archers to evade defeat, either one also taking a toll on the valuable resource.
