Resource Overview | History |
Salt is one of the 31 rare resources. It appears as a patch of cracked white ground.
Like with all rare resources on land, Salt can be gathered by sending a Merchant from the Market to the resource location. Salt gives the following benefits:
- +10 Timber gather rate
- +10 Metal gather rate
- Base cost of Barracks troops and upgrades reduced by 10%[note 1]
- The discount does not apply to ramping costs. It also does not apply to ramping costs on unit upgrades (upgrading multiple units to a more expensive unit provides exactly the same discount as if you had no units and researched the upgrade).
- The cost reduction is cumulative with other bonuses, like those given from Wine (upgrade cost -20%) and Sugar ( Food cost -10%) as well as advanced Military Research.
The gather rate of rare resources can be increased in various ways, as described in the main article. Note that Metal is not gathered until a nation has entered the Classical Age and linking a Salt resource while still in the Ancient Age might not provide the full benefit.
Notes[]
- ↑ Oddly enough this appears to be a hardcoded value, as whatever value set in rules.xml is picked up by the tooltip (in resourcerules.xml) but ignored by the resource itself. Cursory examination of code via reverse engineering suggests that although the value is not entirely ignored, it is not used when calculating unit costs (unlike e.g. Horses).
