Preface[]
I want to begin with a personal story. The nickname on this wiki, "Safiye Choson" has two meanings. "Choson" is an alternative spelling of "Joseon", which is the name of the Korean dynasty founded in 1392, fell in 1910, and it means that I'm Korean. And Turkish name "Safiye" means that I love the Osman Empire(never "Ottoman"! :( ) for some reasons.
But every story isn't completed only with a great hero, because attractive rivals are essential to make excellent plots and scenes. And in a story named "Rise and Expansion of the Osman Empire", there were many fascinating characters indeed. Byzantine emperors of Palaiologos dynasty, Lazar Hrebeljanović and Stefan Lazarević of Serbia, Mircea I and Vlad III of Wallachia, Stephen III of Moldavia, John Hunyadi and Matthias Corvinus of Hungary are only a few examples.
So here, I want to introduce my own design of East European nations(more frankly, the enemies of Osman): Serbians, who are prosper by rich mine and have a knowledge about siegecraft; Bulgarians, who show off their numerous fortresses and supply lines; Romanians, who are expert of scorched-earth tactics and inventors of aircraft; Hungarians, who boast of the legacy of the Raven King on their horseback; and Polish, who enjoys the Golden Liberty to mix governments!
(Finally, I must say I'm sorry if you are Albanian or Bosnian. I found some interesting points about the religion of the Medieval kingdom of Bosnia and I like the carvings of Stećak monuments, but I think I've made enough religious nations until now. And for Albania, "guerrilla warfare" and "league" are hard to describe in this game, and Greeks took Stratioti in official. But rest assured, Skenderbeg is one of my favorite characters in world history.)
Before you read further,
- As you can see already, I'm not good at English. I tried my best, but sorry for any inconvenience.
- Every leaders' and cities' names are arranged in alphabetic order, except the capital city.
- Maybe, some nations should be nerfed or buffed. I know my design is far from perfection.
- Sadly, I have zero skill about modding thing. So this won't be realized unless some of you help me, and I'm not asking you this.
Serbians[]
Although I've heard about the Serbian Empire founded by Stefan Dušan, but I chose to focus on the rich mine of Novo Brdo, which was one of the main sources of income of the empire and lifeline of Serbian Despotate under the name of "Power of Ores" in order to have discrimination with other nations.
But because I couldn't ignore the conquest of Dušan, so I gave a small bonus to Artillery. This would mean that you can choose Consensus governments to enhance economical bonus.
Power of Ores[]
- Start with 50% bonus Wealth.
- Since Classical Age, +1(max. +100) Food, Timber, Metal, Oil for every 25 Wealth accumulated.
- Metal is gathered since Classical Age, and Oil since Industrial Age.
- +50% hit point and +1 combat range for the city, if the city is connected by trade route. Temple is instantly built in the same city.
- Artillery Weapons receive -25% damage from melee attack, deploys and packs 50% faster.
- Deploy bonus won't be stacked with The Monarch's bonus.
- Citizens construct buildings 15% faster.
Unique units[]
- Miner
- Unique Civilian unit built at city along with citizen. It can gather only metal and oil, but at double speed for metal and oil. Receive +5 Wealth for every miner (except when garrisoned). Slightly stronger than Militia, but require Food and Metal. Take up 2 population points.
- Gunpowder Infantry: Vojstatik (Gunpowder Age) - Vojstatik Guard (Enlightenment Age)
- Provide double garrison power when they are garrisoned in City, Towers, and Forts. Can build Towers, Forts, and Lookout/Observation Post inside of your territory.
- Build rate of those buildings is the same as Citizen.
- Provide double garrison power when they are garrisoned in City, Towers, and Forts. Can build Towers, Forts, and Lookout/Observation Post inside of your territory.
- Light Cavalry: Gusar (Medieval Age) - Royal Gusar (Gunpowder Age) - Krajišniks (Enlightenment Age)
- Move faster than ordinary Light Cavalry in hostile territory. They provide +2 Wealth each while they are in hostile territory.

Bulgarians[]
It was one mod of Civilization 5 that taught me there were some connections between the Bulgarian Empire and fortress, and Bulgarian Civilization from Age of Empires II made me more certain about this. It seems that Bulgarians built many border fortresses in the 9~10 century indeed, and this is the reason I gave Fortress and Spy bonus to them.
Also, I wanted to express cultural development under Simeon I by university bonus and nation power's name: "Power of the Tsar".
Power of the Tsar[]
- Forts have -50% hit points but can be built at half price with double speed.
- This includes both the base and ramping costs.
- Spies move faster and have more line of sights(as if they have another level of Strategy technology), it can be built from the Classical Age.
- Strategy technology also affects to the line of sight and movement speed of Supply Wagons.
- Military Research prerequisites about units, buildings, and upgrades are removed.
- This doesn't mean that unit upgrades are free, and Age prerequisites remain.
- Each university gathers 15 Food, Timber and Metal from Classical Age.
Unique units[]
- Heavy Cavalry: Druzhina (Medieval Age) - Druzhina Guard (Gunpowder Age) - Boyar (Enlightenment Age)
- Slightly expensive than ordinary Heavy Cavalry. Instead, they are stronger than their counterparts and receive additional damage and armor bonus from General.
- Ranged Cavalry: Cuman Horse Archer (Medieval Age) - Cuman Cavalry (Gunpowder Age) - Tatar Cavalry (Enlightenment Age)
- Attack little slower and fire projectiles are much slower than ordinary Ranged Cavalry. Instead, they fire multiple arrows at once.

Romanians[]
Although this is "Romanian" nation, but I wanted to express fierce resistance against Osman empire by Principalities of Wallachia and Moldavia under the name of "Power of the Principalities", Although they had to accept the suzerainty of the Osmans for many centuries in the end, but their stories, which is more interesting than novel Dracula I believe, made me try another nation based on Attrition damage.
And one more thing: Romania produced many inventors who contributed to early aviation history. Although it was Osmans who formed an independent air force in history as I know, this would be enough reason to give an Aircraft bonus.
Power of the Principalities []
- Forts' effect on borders increased by 1. Towers also affect on borders by 1.
- Every enemy unit taking Attrition damage in your territory takes more damage by your units. This bonus damage is escalated by Attrition upgrade.
- Amount of bonus damage is the same as the level of Attrition upgrade: 1 with Allegiance, 2 with Oath of Fealty, 3 with Patriotism, 4 with Nationalism.
- Every barracks inside of City's Economic radius gathers 20 Food if there is Granary in the same city. Every stable/Auto Plant inside of City's Economic radius gathers 20 Timber if there is Lumber Mill in the same city. Every Siege Factory/Factory inside of City's Economic radius gathers 20 Metal if there is Smelter in the same city.
- The speed of Razing buildings(except for City and Capital) is doubled. You can raze two buildings at the same time. Plunder value from razing buildings is doubled.
- Airbase's radius and maximum garrisons increased by 20%. Every Fighter and Bomber Aircraft's operative time increased by 25%.
- Fuel recharge time isn't increased.

- Heavy Infantry: Lefegii (Medieval Age) - Heavy Lefegii (Gunpowder Age)
- More resistant to enemy Foot Archers and Ranged Cavalry than ordinary Heavy Infantry.

Hungary was toughest to settle on a concept among the 5 nations in this design, and this wasn't I don't know much about them, but I had to balance between many features: Cavalry, Végvár(some kind of border fortress), and achievements of Matthias Corvinus, who is one of my favorite characters in history.
As a result, those features are mixed in this design. I gave a massive light cavalry bonus, Corvinian legacy is portrayed by research bonus and unique units, and Végvár is expressed by some defense bonuses and nation power's name: "Power of Castle".
(Also it was a dark time for Hungary of course, but the wars surrounding the supremacy of Hungary between the Osmans and the Habsburgs consisted by many Sieges)
Power of Castle[]
- Receive Light Cavalry upgrades for free. Receive free Light Cavalry whenever you build a new stables/Auto Plants. One at start, two with Medieval Age and 2 Military techs researched, and three with Enlightenment Age and 4 Military techs researched.
- Before Industrial Age, receive free Light Cavalry whenever you advance in Age. Two with Classical Age, four with Medieval Age, six with Gunpowder Age, eight with Enlightenment Age.
- Those units will be spawned near the capital.
- Every technology and upgrade researched 50% faster.
- Receive 1 free Citizen whenever you build Towers, 2 with Forts. Towers and Forts slowly repaired when they aren't being attacked for free.
- The speed of auto-repairing is the same as a repair by one citizen.
- Repairing cost isn't effected by Ramping Cost.
- Garrisonable structures can accommodate +50% units. Garrison Power isn't effected by additional garrisons.
Unique units[]
- Heavy Infantry: Pavise Pikemen (Medieval Age) - Heavy Pavise Pikemen (Gunpowder Age)
- Have little bonus against enemy Light and Heavy Cavalry then ordinary Heavy Infantry. Instead, they have more armor and hit points, and taunts enemy units to attack them for every 15 secs.
- Every pavise use taunt ability at the same time, regardless of when they exactly built.
- Have little bonus against enemy Light and Heavy Cavalry then ordinary Heavy Infantry. Instead, they have more armor and hit points, and taunts enemy units to attack them for every 15 secs.
- Foor Archers/Gunpowder Infantry: Black Archers (Medieval Age) - Black Arquebusiers (Gunpowder Age)
- Slightly expensive than ordinary Foor Archers/Gunpowder Infantry, but deals more damage to the enemy when they are intact. Receive strong damage bonus when they have more than 75% hit points, and little damage bonus when they have more than 50% hit points.
- Because of this unique unit, Hungarian Foot Archers merge into Gunpowder Infantry in Gunpowder Age, not in Enlightenment Age.
- Slightly expensive than ordinary Foor Archers/Gunpowder Infantry, but deals more damage to the enemy when they are intact. Receive strong damage bonus when they have more than 75% hit points, and little damage bonus when they have more than 50% hit points.

I've wanted to make a nation based on government bonus, in fact. So I thought about to design Babylonia when I planned some Mesopotamian nations, but Babylon was "rather than a new idea, a reinvigoration of the old Sumerian Empire", as Civilization 5 said.
So this idea comes to Poland now, because although I don't know well about this, nobles of Poland controlled the Polish parliament and elected king. This right called "Golden Liberty", and hence the name "Power of Liberty".
Power of Liberty[]
- Start with a Senate.
- Every Major City and Large City must be captured to eliminate you. Instead, you'll lose every bonus from your government and Patriots won't be respawned if your capital is captured.
- You can use both governments from the same tier together. You can receive only one patriot from the first government.
- For example, if you researched Monarchy first and Democracy later, The Monarch will be given only.
- Granary has an effect on the Food production of the city center itself and rare resources within the economic radius.
- City center receives full effect from Granary, Rare resources get only half. Taxation upgrade is stacked with this.

- Expensive than ordinary Heavy Cavalry, but deals splash damage.
