The Elite Light Cavalry is the standard Light Cavalry of the Gunpowder Age, available to upgrade from the Light Cavalry and trained at the Stable.

Overview[]

When the Light Cavalry becomes Elite Light Cavalry, it gains +18 hit points, +1 attack strength, +1 armor and +1 line of sight.

The fastest combat unit of its age, Elite Light Cavalry excels in direct combat against Foot Archers, Ranged Cavalry, Artillery Weapons, and Supply Wagons. However, Heavy Cavalry and Heavy Infantry will handily win in a fight. They can also best Gunpowder Infantry, but the matchup is more difficult than against the previous Light Infantry.

Although their high speed allows them to pick and choose their engagements, their relatively low health and armor means that all incoming damage (including from buildings, and even the units which Elite Light Cavalry counter) can be significant. For example, Foot Archers will fall quickly once attacked, but their substantial range advantage can allow them to damage Elite Light Cavalry from afar - possibly from behind the safety of other units.

Unlike the previous, weaker Light Infantry, the new Gunpowder Infantry in this age begins to crowd out the usefulness of Light Cavalry except in cases where speed is of the utmost value. As such, Elite Light Cavalry may be less suitable for general army-vs-army combat and instead better suited for more specialised roles.
