Ashigaru Spearmen are the Japanese unique Heavy Infantry of the Ancient Age that replaces the standard Hoplites.
Overview[]
Compared to Hoplites, Ashigaru Spearmen have +5 hit points, +1 attack strength, +1 armor, +3 turn speed (meaning they can maneuver faster), and an attack speed of 30 frames, as well as lacking the 12% damage penalty against buildings that Hoplites have.
Ashigaru Spearmen can survive longer against cities, towers, and enemy units due to their additional armor, and their additional damage, especially against buildings, makes them better for rushes and overall offense, as well as the best besieger units of its age.
Trivia[]
- Ashigaru (足軽), meaning "light [of] foot" in Japanese, is a term first attested in the 14 century CE for the infantry mercenaries that supported the Samurai in battle.
